Location mapGladbrook station is a ten-minute drive from Middlemarch and just 45 minutes from Dunedin International Airport – offering daily connections to both domestic and international destinations.

Middlemarch is nestled between Dunedin, famous for its heritage and architecture, and Central Otago with its rugged scenery and history. Middlemarch boasts the meeting point of the Central Otago Rail Trail and the Taieri Gorge Train.

The name ‘Middlemarch’ is thought to have been taken from George Eliot’s novel on English country life.

Getting to Gladbrook

From Dunedin

Middlemarch is one hour's drive from Dunedin City. Take State Highway 1 south. At the end of the motorway you will see a large sign to Mosgiel and Middlemarch. Turn left and follow the signs to Middlemarch on State Highway 87 through Mosgiel and Outram (Outram has the last petrol station before Middlemarch). Eventually State Highway 87 descends into the Strath Taieri valley. Once you have past a small settlement called Sutton turn left up McHardy Road. The Gladbrook driveway is located at the end of McHardy Road.

Alternatively take the Taieri Gorge Scenic train from Dunedin to Middlemarch or Pukerangi.

From Queenstown / Wanaka / Cromwell

Head to Alexandra and follow the directions below.

From Alexandra

Take State Highway 85 to Ranfurly. About 15 km out of Ranfurly, you cross the Keyburn River bridge and immediately thereafter turn right onto State Highway 87 and follow the signs to Middlemarch (no more turns). You will travel over the Capburn ridge to enter the northern end of the Strath Taieri valley, and slowly descend past Hyde to Middlemarch. From Middlemarch turn right up Brown’s Road. At the end of Brown’s road turn left onto Gladbrook Road. Follow this road for about 8kms (it will change from tarseal to gravel) until you reach the Gladbrook driveway on your right hand side.

From Christchurch /Oamaru

At Palmerston on State Highway 1, turn right onto State Highway 85 (signposted to Ranfurly). After Dunback, turn left up the hill towards Hyde and Middlemarch. You travel past the enormous Oceania Gold open cast gold mine and through the historic township of Macraes. At the next major fork, keep right towards Hyde on this excellent sealed road until you reach State Highway 87 south of Hyde. Turn south and continue to Middlemarch. From Middlemarch turn right up Brown’s Road. At the end of Brown’s road turn left onto Gladbrook Road. Follow this road for about 8kms (it will change from tarseal to gravel) until you reach the Gladbrook driveway on your right hand side.
